Project Policies
Each student must complete a final project and give a presentation
about it. Group/team projects are not allowed.
1 Types of Projects
All projects must be informative and must be in one of the
following categories.
1.1 Applied Projects
For an applied project you must:
- Construct an example of a travel-related technology
that we discussed.
- Create a video recording of you explaining and
using the technology.
- Give a presentation on "the making of" your video during the
scheduled presentation.
1.2 Educational Projects
For and eductaional project you must:
- Create educational materials similar to those used
during the semester on a topic that was not discussed during
the semester.
- Create a video recording of you delivering a lecture
using the materials you created.
- Give a presentation on "the making of" your materials/video
during the scheduled presentation.
2 Proposals and Approval
All final projects must be approved. To that end, you must submit
a brief (e.g., one page) proposal that describes what you intend to do.
3 Materials
All materials (e.g., images, recordings, text) must be original or
must be in the public domain. In other words, you must
not infringe on any copyrights.
4 Submission
You must submit all deliverables using Canvas (unless size restrictions
prevent you from doing so, in which case, special arrangements will be
made).
5 Visibility
All projects will be made available to students in the course.
All projects may also be made available to the public.
6 Presentations
As mentioned above the videos will be made available to everyone
in the course. So, there is no reason to present the video itself.
In addition, some of the videos may be too long to present in the
time allotted. Instead, each student must give a presentation on
"the making of" the video.
Presentation times will NOT be announced in advance. You
must be prepared to present at any time during the "presentation
period".
Each presentation will last about 10 minutes, including setup time
and questions (though the exact length will depend on the number
of projects).
While I do not require attendance in general, I do require (as a
matter of courtesy/collegiality) that all students attend all
presentations.
For the Fall 2020 semester, presentations will be given/viewed using the
course "teleconferencing" system.
7 Grading
Projects will be evaluated primarily based on
their technical merit. In other words, aesthetic issues will only have a
minor impact on grades.
